Frequently Asked Questions
What is Self-RAG?
Self-RAG is a framework where an LLM is trained to emit internal reflection tokens (`[Retrieve]`, `[Is-Relevant]`, `[Is-Supported]`) to critique its own retrieval need, document relevance, and factual groundedness in real time.
What is Corrective RAG (CRAG)?
Corrective RAG uses an automated evaluator to score retrieved document quality. If documents are irrelevant, CRAG discards them and triggers fallback web searches or query rewrites before generation.
What is Adaptive RAG?
Adaptive RAG dynamically routes queries based on complexity: answering simple questions directly without search, routing factual questions to standard RAG, and routing complex queries to multi-hop agentic pipelines.
How does CRAG prevent hallucinations?
By acting as an automated gatekeeper. If retrieved chunks fail to score above a relevance threshold, they are blocked from entering the prompt, preventing the model from hallucinating based on faulty context.
Can you implement CRAG without retraining an LLM?
Yes. Unlike Self-RAG (which requires special model weights), CRAG is purely an architectural pattern that can be built using standard LLMs and basic Python evaluation scripts.
