Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between agentic automation and RPA?
RPA replays a recorded sequence and breaks when the interface changes. Agentic automation is given a goal and works out the steps, adapting to change — at the cost of determinism and easy auditability.
Does agentic automation replace RPA entirely?
No. For stable, high-volume, well-defined processes, deterministic automation is cheaper, faster and fully auditable. Agentic approaches earn their place where variation is genuine.
What is the biggest risk when moving from RPA to agentic automation?
The failure mode inverts. RPA stopped and raised an error; an agent improvises and completes the process with wrong data, which is harder to notice and worse to unwind.
What does an agentic automation deployment need that RPA did not?
Verification. Detailed action logs, human sampling of completed work, and approval gates on anything financial or irreversible — because you can no longer audit behaviour by reading the script.
Should I choose one or the other?
Usually both. A deterministic path for the standard eighty per cent keeps cost and auditability high, with the agent reserved for the exceptions that genuinely need judgement.
Where do the real savings come from?
Exception handling — the cases never automated because a rule for each was not worth writing. That is where most human time in a process actually goes.
