Frequently Asked Questions
Why are remote jobs targeted by scammers more often?
Because a legitimate remote process is conducted entirely through messages and calls, a fraudulent one looks identical. The incidental verification of visiting an office disappeared, and nothing automatically replaced it.
Is being asked to buy my own equipment a scam?
Not by itself — it is a normal remote arrangement. It is fraud when they send you money to forward to a specific supplier. A legitimate employer never routes payment to a third party through you.
What is the single most reliable warning sign?
An offer with little or no real assessment. Employers do not commit to hiring people they have not evaluated, because getting it wrong is expensive. An unearned offer is not luck.
How do I verify a remote employer is real?
Only through channels you found independently: search for the company yourself, call the number on the site you found, and check the legal entity on the company register. Anything they supplied proves nothing.
Are payment-processing roles really that serious?
Yes. Receiving and forwarding funds is money laundering, and good faith is not a reliable defence. People have had accounts frozen, lost banking access for years, and faced prosecution.
Someone has offered to recover my money for a fee. Is that real?
Almost never. Recovery services charging upfront are a standard follow-up fraud against people already defrauded, frequently run by the same operation.
