Frequently Asked Questions
What should I build first in a job application agent?
Ingestion. It is the least interesting component and the most likely to make the project unviable, so finding out early whether you can reliably get postings saves everything downstream.
Why deduplicate before scoring?
The same role appears across sources with different titles and formatting. Scoring first wastes tokens and can result in several applications to one job — which looks considerably worse than not applying.
Should the agent submit applications automatically?
Everything before submission is reversible; submission is not. Be aggressive about autonomy up to that line and require explicit human confirmation at it, showing exactly what will be sent.
What makes a job agent improve over time?
A feedback loop — plus honesty about its limits. Corrected preferences, learned form structures and aggregated employer behaviour are reliable; inferring why one person was rejected is not.
What state does the agent actually need?
A seen set, application records keyed by candidate and normalised role, the exact documents sent, rejection reasons, and caps that survive a restart.
Where should eligibility live in the scoring?
Outside it, as a gate that runs first. As a weight, a confident skills match will eventually outvote a requirement the candidate cannot satisfy.
