Frequently Asked Questions
Can an agent tell me why I was rejected?
No. A rejection is consistent with an internal hire, a pulled budget, a stronger candidate or an unopened application — none distinguishable from outside. Any explanation is a guess.
How many rejections before a pattern means something?
For an individual, more than a job search produces. Tens of outcomes across different roles, companies and moments cannot be attributed to one factor.
What feedback is actually worth learning from?
Explicit reasons — a stated rejection rationale, an interviewer comment, the candidate own account of a conversation. One of those outweighs a hundred silent rejections.
Should the agent lower the target after rejections?
Not on its own. That can talk someone out of the career they are building on the basis of noise. Report what happened and let the person decide.
Why is silence worse than a small sample?
Because the responses you do have come only from employers who chose to reply, which is a non-random population rather than a sample of outcomes.
Are stated rejection reasons reliable?
Only partly. They are written to be inoffensive, so "a closer fit" is compatible with everything. Reading it as a specific finding is inventing an explanation again.
