Frequently Asked Questions
Can I collect job listings from any site?
No. Many prohibit automated collection in their terms, and some jurisdictions treat that as more than contractual. Decide per source before building, not afterwards.
How should data from different sources be handled?
Normalise into your own schema at the boundary, keeping the raw payload. Otherwise every consumer handles five formats and adding a source touches everything.
How do I deduplicate listings across aggregators?
Match on employer, normalised title, location and description similarity — not URL. Then prefer the employer own page as the canonical record.
What happens when one source is down?
Return what succeeded and say which source was unavailable. An aggregator that fails entirely on one bad input is offline more often than any of its sources.
Why should missing fields stay missing?
Because a defaulted salary of zero or a defaulted location of "remote" silently distorts filtering. Unknown is a value the rest of the system can handle correctly.
How do I keep aggregation costs flat?
Poll each source at the rate it actually changes, fetch incrementally where supported, and run embedding and extraction once per posting identity rather than per arrival.
